Tosano Supermarkets: Logistics Control and Optimization with E3

After adopting E3 solutions for Commercial Management Control and Human Resources Productivity, Supermercati Tosano has chosen the E3 Suite for measuring and controlling its Logistics Operations.
Project objectives
Optimizing logistics processes through warehouse automation

The company has seen an expansion of its traditional logistics structures and the launch of a process of advanced warehouse automation, resulting in increased organizational complexity. In this context, the E3 Suite logistics measurement solution was activated with the initial objectives of in-depth measurement of logistics operations and space saturation, a topic the company has always focused on.

The LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT has expressed specific requests, which we report here:

  • Regarding preparation: Packages, rows, packages/row, plts, packages/plt, €/plt, hours worked and turnover prepared by department and by store (with totals)
  • For forklift drivers: allocations made, number of lanes traveled to allocate, lowerings made, number of lanes traveled, how many partial, expos prepared, distance traveled, full PP prepared, distance traveled
  • Regarding incoming goods: unloaded parcels, unloaded packages, packages per pallet, € unloaded, hours worked, all divided by operator
  • Hours of all departments
  • Extract a complete set of data from the automatic system: number of pallets loaded into HBW divided by department, number of pallets rejected by department, total packages dismantled during the day, total packages and pallets palletized during the day, packages per pallet, start time of the first package being palletized and the last package, hourly productivity from the first to the last package. We will need to find a way to enter the hours of the various department workers divided by function, which are currently not recorded.
  • Saturation index of dry, fresh and frozen warehouses
  • Total value in € and number of pallets in stock in the various warehouses
Reasons for the choice
Tosano Supermarkets has chosen the Suite E3 evaluating the solution's strengths as:
the consolidated experience of Relatech professionals, who already operate in the full range of commercial operations measurement and resource productivity processes
the availability of an application environment dedicated to logistics measurement, capable of acquiring, historicizing, organizing and systematizing logistics data
The robust architecture of the E3 platform, supported by ORACLE technology as a data warehouse, enables the execution of ETL processes and user analytics
the prospective interest in completing the logistics analysis in a "full costing" logic, with economic data interfacing, to which the E3 Suite is particularly attentive
Benefits Obtained
Granular control of operations and management of logistics space
By implementing the solution, it was possible to meet the various needs for measuring operations and saturation. First, data from the two storage and preparation systems ("traditional" and "automatic") are combined in a single repository, providing a granular and unifying view.
These tools, now in everyday use, can improve space management in the main warehouse, reducing access to external storage facilities and activating rebalancing actions. For operations, routes, downtime, and productivity are measured in detail in the traditional sense, with the extension to the automated warehouse.
