The Rossetto Food Group has been operating in the large-scale food retail sector since 1965, with 25 hypermarkets and supermarkets in the provinces of Verona, Vicenza, Padua, Mantua, Reggio Emilia, Rovigo, Brescia, Cremona, Modena, and Venice. The CE.DI. is centralized in a single warehouse divided into three logistics areas: Dry, Fresh, and Frozen. The dry storage area is largely automated. The company has chosen to use only in-house labor for all phases of production.
Project objectives
Data and KPIs for controlling logistics activities
The company expressed the need to monitor warehouse logistics operations and the saturation level of available space, with the aim of measuring operational performance across various areas and activities, thus improving efficiency and productivity.
The primary areas monitored were warehouse operations and space utilization. Regarding operations, the goal was to measure activity times, i.e., the ratio between time spent and quantity moved for each activity, in order to streamline internal operational processes and identify any critical issues. The operations considered included both those tracked via radio frequency and those entered manually. It was therefore necessary to generate a daily report each morning with movement and productivity statistics, structured according to all required keys and based on certified data obtained through refined and clean statistics, thanks to the integration of information on the attendance of human resources and area managers.
Regarding space saturation, the goal was to collect data on occupied and vacant spaces, as well as packages and pallets in stock. This provided a clear overview of saturation levels by aisle, warehouse area, and storage area, while simultaneously monitoring the correct assignment of space and appropriate product allocation.
Reasons for the choice
To achieve the above objectives, the Solution of the Suite E3 on the
Logistics Performance, which has allowed us to:
use a pre-configured database but fed with company data and according to its specificities
use the Logistics Datamart, built in analytical-dimensional mode, up to the maximum level of detail required for item, operation, warehouse, location, operator and time of activity
integrate different information flows, such as attendance data
clean up and manage exceptional cases by start and end time of operations
calculate the transit times from one operation to another
Testimonials
Daily balance and warehouse performance control with the E3 Suite
“"Through the E3 Suite, we can obtain a daily inventory balance (IN-OUT), monitor, both short-term (day-to-day) and medium-long-term, the efficiency of the various physical management activities of the finished goods warehouse and individual operators—also identifying potential causes of inefficiency for remediation—and monitor saturation and the appropriate allocation of warehouse space to the various product categories. Other important needs we are able to meet include information support for the proper balancing of resources in the "lowering" and replenishment of picking areas, with a view to improving the level of service in response to demand from the points of sale. This is ensured both through highly granular tabular reporting and through a navigable graphical display."«
