DRUPS

Decision support system based on in-situ and aeRial spectroscopy and distribUted network of heterogeneous sensors for the Pproduction of olivesEs.

Expert decision support system (DSS) that integrates data from in-situ sensors, drone images and spectroscopic analyses
Research focus
The DRUPE project was created to address the challenges of Ligurian olive growing, a strategic yet still under-digitalized sector. The goal is to develop innovative solutions to monitor and intelligently manage olive groves, improving productivity and sustainability in response to climate change and phytosanitary threats.
Solution found
DRUPE offers an expert decision support system (DSS) that integrates data from in-situ sensors, drone images, and spectroscopic analysis. This approach allows farmers to monitor plant health, predict stress situations, and plan targeted interventions, reducing resource use and improving product quality.
Advanced technological solution
The DRUPE system integrates advanced technologies for monitoring, analysis, and decision support in agriculture. Its main components are:
Technological heart

DRUPE is based on an IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) network that collects environmental and agronomic data in real time.

Intelligent analysis

The system uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to analyze hyperspectral images, gamma rays, and microscopic data, recognize pests using smart traps, and activate wildlife deterrents.

DSS (Decision Support System)

It is a cloud application developed by Relatech, accessible in Software as a Service (SaaS) mode, equipped with analysis capabilities through statistical algorithms and machine learning, with intuitive dashboards for the end user.

Financing
The project is funded under the ERDF Regional Programme 2021–2027, Priority 1, Action 1.1.1, with a non-repayable grant of €427,795.98 out of a total investment of €738,941.06. The funding supports industrial research and experimental development activities for innovation in the Ligurian agri-food sector.

Partnership

DRUPE is developed by a partnership of five SMEs, a large company, and a research organization, with the support of the CNR (National Research Council). Partners include:

  • SITEM Srl (leader): expert in automation and sensors.
  • FlairBit Srl: specialized in IoT and Big Data.
